Chocolate Cake Recipe

A classic homemade chocolate cake recipe.

Ingredients

1 cup boiling water
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup milk
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 cup baking cocoa
1 3/4 cups flour
2 cups sugar

Directions

Heat oven to 350F.

Grease and flour one 13x9 inch pan ortwo 9 inch round baking pans.

In large mixer bowl, stir together dry ingredients.

Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla; beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.

Stir in boiling water by hand (batter will be thin).

Pour into prepared pan.

Bake 30 to 35 minutes for round 9-inch pans, 35 to 40 minutes for rectangular pan or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.

Cool 10 minutes; remove from pan to wire racks.

Top with your choice of frosting.
