Bread Machine Hot Cross Buns Recipe

This recipe for bread machine hot cross buns produces soft light fluffy buns.

Ingredients

Buns
1 egg, + 1 egg yolk
3/4 cup milk
1/3 cup butter
6 Tablespoons granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon rind, grated
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
3/4 teaspoon salt
3 cups all purpose flour
1 Tablespoon bread machine yeast
1/2 cup raisins or 1/2 cup candied fruit

Glaze
1/2 cup icing sugar
1 Tablespoon milk
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice

Directions

Add all ingredients to bread machine except fruit and set it for 'Dough'.

Add fruit at signal.

Lightly grease a 9 x 13-inch pan and set aside.

When dough is ready, remove and punch down.

Cut into 18-24 pieces and roll each piece into a ball.

Place each ball on the greased pan, about a half inch apart.

Cover with plastic wrap and place in a warm spot to let rise for about an hour.

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Once risen, cut crosses into the top of each ball with a sharp knife.

Bake for 12-15 minutes.

In a mixing bowl, add sugar and milk to make a thick drizzle.

Allow rolls to slightly cool and then drizzle icing into the cuts.
